The Together Project – How printed activities can unite communities

Loneliness is a major issue in our society today. Sadly, older people are particularly affected and increasing age segregation is leaving many seniors feeling isolated, institutionalised and misunderstood. Younger generations are missing out too – often deprived of the experience, joy and wisdom our older generations can offer.

That’s why Louise Goulden founded The Together Project. In 2017, whilst on maternity leave from her marketing career, Louise wanted to feel more connected to her local community and find ways to unite age groups for mutual benefit. Louise set about designing joy-filled, creative activities that would provide fun, intergenerational experiences. When Pressplus heard about this, we jumped at the chance to get involved.

Louise’s focus is always on fun and friendship and finding ways to connect at least two different age groups who might not normally come into regular contact with each other. To build a thriving community, Louise knew she needed to create a regular Newsletter, Welcome Packs, Activity Packs, Friendship Packs, Stickers and other printed items.

Pressplus helped design and print all the resources needed and, as the The Together Project has grown, we are thrilled with the positive impact it is having.

In particular, we love the Crafting Connections programme where children are paired with older adults to exchange arts and crafts every month. Each printed Activity Pack provides three hits of happiness! One as participants create a unique piece of artwork for their new friend. Two, when it’s posted, knowing that the artwork is making a difference. And three, when a friend’s artwork is received in return.

A simple craft exchange is an enriching and engaging activity for all generations and provides long-lasting memories as the friendship grows.

The Together Project is now a national, award-winning charity and has a growing membership throughout the country. We congratulate Louise and her team for a wonderful initiative that’s boosting wellbeing, reducing loneliness and building stronger and happier communities.
